HELEN REDD STORY
My sister, Helen Marie Summers Redd was born in October of 1933 in Moab, Utah and died in Grand Junction, Colorado in July of 1986 of a brain aneurysm . She was a very positive, enthusiastic and loving person. Family always came first. She was a superb secretary typing over 100 words per minute and taking shorthand dictation of over 100 words per minute. She was very quick and was an excellent ping pong player.
Recently I met with my old law school buddy Tony Allen after a BYU basketball game. Helen had worked for him as a legal secretary in St. George. Before we parted, he told me he wanted to tell me a ”Helen Redd story.
He reported that when Art was transferred to Lawrence, Kansas, Helen went job hunting at law firms in Lawrence. She met with one law firm and they were very impressed with her credentials. One lawyer said, “Well, I think the only thing left for the interview is for you to take our test.” Helen replied, “Helen Redd doesn’t wash windows or take tests. This interview is over.” The lawyer responded, “Well, I guess you are hired.” Helen was the firm manager of that law firm when she died.
