This is a test to see if can post on this blog by myself. If this works, I will try typing something in Word, save and post to this blog-I am not optimistic.

New locations for Kelly's memos.

For a number of years, I have sent memos to by family telling them what am doing and sharing with them some of my stories and history. Since I have retired and don’t have a secretary any more to type and mail my memos and since my Parkinson’s Disease makes it difficult to use my fingers, I have been negligent in writing memos. I especially feel bad that I am having great experiences as stake president and I am not recording them.

With the aid of the internet, I hope to change all this and post my memo’s on the Summers Family Blog. You will have to check the blog to see if I have made a posting. I also want to start on my history.

Tile is finally coming

Stay tuned- my tile is going to be installed on Dec. 1st- I will have pictures to show during and after the process. It has only been 5 1/2 years, after all.

* Tile is in! I'm just waiting until tomorrow to seal it though. I had to paint the quarter round [goes next to tile and base boards] tonight on the living room floor since it is freezing outside. Then I can move back into my bathroom and the closet under the stairs. The house is a MESS!

Alaska in August

I went to Alaska for a few days with some friends (Mary, Ben and Wayne). When we weren't vetting Sarah Palin, we spent most of our time in Homer, Alaska, where Wayne is from. The following photos are what Wayne's family sees everyday when they look out the window. We do mountains well in Colorado but we don't have anything quite like this.

Our second night there, we went to Halibut Cove for dinner and spent the night in a cabin. It is only accessible by boat and has very pristine water in the cove. We managed to play some poker before bed, but being a lousy bluffer,  I lost all my M & Ms.

After Halibut's Cove, we took a water taxi to a national park to hike to a glacier lake (also only accessible by boat). We didn't see any moose or bears to our disappointment, but we did see a very majestic glacier, part of one the largest ice shelves in the world, according to Wayne.

On Saturday we went out to the open sea for some fishing. It was a 2 hour ride out, so we played a lot of cards on the way. Once we started fishing, it took us all a while to catch our fish. It also didn't help that the dog fish (the shark-looking things) kept eating our bait but eventually our patience and sore muscles paid off. Ben caught the biggest fish, I caught the most (2) and Mary caught the miracle fish (at the last possible moment. She was very shocked, actually we all were). I'm a little sad that I didn't take enough time to position my fish so you could see how big they were.  Halibut are wide flat fish with both eyes on one side of their bodies, even though they are born with eyes on either side of their bodies. Apparently one eye travels over to the other side as they grow and they start to swim with on side flat to the ground. They are also not easy to reel in and I have the bruises to prove it. They are tasty, however. The crew fillets them on the way back to land and Wayne's mom was kind enough to cook us some of our catch that night. The rest is in my freezer.
